The world-famous Cirque du Soleil will present one of newest its touring shows Amaluna, in the renowned Royal Albert Hall in London. A celebration of love and a tribute to the work and voice of women, this London stop marks Amaluna’s UK premiere, and celebrates Cirque du Soleil’s 20th year at the iconic venue.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Amaluna is set on an island ruled by goddesses. After her daughter’s coming of age ceremony, Queen Prospera causes a storm, during which a group of young men wash up on the island, setting off a chain of events that changes the course of her daughter’s life. Amaluna tells the epic love story of Propera’s daughter and one of the young men who washed on the island, and the struggles and tests their love must face.

Written and directed by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, Amaluna celebrates a woman’s power and femininity in all aspects: from the story to the cast, Cirque du Soleil’s 33rd production is celebrated for having a 70% female cast, and all 8 members of the band are women. Even the name evokes feminine strength, as well, with “ama” a common word for mother in many languages, and “luna,” which means moon, a symbol of fertility and femininity.
